Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” Robert Frost

Have you ever played that game? You know the one. You try and imagine what your life would have been like if you’d made different choices. What if you went to a different school? If you took the leap and did a semester abroad? What if you said no to that marriage proposal instead of yes?

There are no do-overs in life. But there are in fiction.

Look at the choices you’ve had your character make in the story. Did you take the safe route? What would the story look like if the character made a different choice? Would a different choice elevate your story? If so- back them up and take them down that road.

What choices does  your character regret? What do they wish they could do over? What is keeping them from making a change?
