Spending time around people who complain all the time is exhausting. Reading about people who are perpetually complaining, getting knocked down, and floundering is just as exhausting. We all need sunny moments and laughter to fully engage with life.
Evaluate your plot line for excessive heaviness. Plant some sunnier moments as needed to give your reader time to breathe.
What does your protagonist complain about? What makes them move from complaining to taking action?
